Benefits of Red Panax Ginseng

Red panax ginseng is also known as Asian ginseng. It is said to warm the body while American ginseng cools the body. Red panax ginseng is native to China, Japan and North Korea though it no longer grows wild there. It is still cultivated there. China is also the largest world importer of American ginseng. It is the root of the ginseng plant which is used, and is said to have benefits for all types of medical and health problems.

Both red panax ginseng and American ginseng roots are white or tan in color. The color in red panax ginseng comes from processing--the roots are steamed for ten to twelve hours and then dried. That gives them the reddish color. Often, they are further processed to be made into slices, powders and capsules. Ginseng is the most popular supplement in the world.

Red panax ginseng has been used in China for thousands and thousands of years as a type of elixir, which is said to bring the body into balance and health. It is thought to be a cure-all for just about anything that can go wrong with the human body. Ginseng is used by women for its benefits during menopause and by men to treat sexual impotence. It has always been used for its anti-aging effects.

Many of the positive benefits of ginseng on health have no basis in scientific fact. Others, however, have been revealed through scientific testing over the last twenty years. For instance, it is known that red panax ginseng can help people with heart disease because it has the same antioxidant properties as other fruits and vegetables. It is thought to reduce the amounts of bad cholesterol in the body.

In other research, red panax ginseng was shown to have a positive effect on blood sugar levels. It is hoped that this reduction can help people who have type 2 diabetes. Ginseng boosts the immune system. While it has traditionally been used to treat cold and flu symptoms, it has been reported that ginseng helps flu vaccines to be more effective and can have some benefit in treating bronchitis. Scientific research has also proven ginseng effective in preventing and treating some forms of cancer.

Other conditions which have benefits attributed to ginseng include asthma, Alzheimer’s disease, allergies, gastrointestinal problems, certain cancers, chronic fatigue syndrome, digestive disorders, herpes, heart attacks, inflammation, fevers, stroke, liver disease, back pain, nausea, stress, ulcers, sexual problems, and skin disorders.

Before taking ginseng in any amount, you should check with your doctor or health practitioner. Ginseng has no side effects at all in some people but in others can cause insomnia, increased blood pressure, vaginal bleeding, nervous disorders, depression, manic attacks, and other symptoms.
